Chairman's Message

''Dyslexia does not diminish a child's intelligence or potential; it simply asks that we adapt to their ways of learning/understanding.''

-Prof Joe Ezigbo

There are moments in life when one is compelled to pause and ask a simple but profound question: how can the blessings of one's journey be used to uplift others? For me, the answer lies in children—particularly those whose potential are often overlooked because they learn differently.

From an early age, I felt a deep urge/instinct to stand beside those who are vulnerable. I remember that as a child, whenever I saw two people fighting, I instinctively joined the side of the one being beaten. I did not always know who was right or wrong, but I simply could not stand by and watch someone seemingly treated unfairly. That instinct to protect and uplift others has remained with me throughout my life.

Years later, that instinct became deeply personal. Like many parents, I experienced the anxiety and uncertainty of watching my own child struggle in school because of dyslexia. I remember the quiet pain of attending meetings with teachers at the beginning of each academic session, hoping she would be allowed to move to the next class. Those moments opened my eyes to a reality faced by countless families across Nigeria.

Across our country, many bright children sit in classrooms struggling to read or process words at the same pace as their peers. Too often they are misunderstood or labeled unfairly, when in truth they simply learn differently. Dyslexia does not diminish a child's intelligence or potential; it only requires that we teach and support them in ways that recognize how they learn best.

The Joe Ezigbo Foundation was established to help change this reality. Our mission is to raise awareness about dyslexia, promote early screening and support for affected children, equip teachers with the tools they need, and work with government and partners to build sustainable systems of intervention.

We believe every child carries within them the promise of tomorrow. When that promise is recognized and nurtured, society itself is strengthened.

I warmly invite you to join us in this journey. Together, we can ensure that every child is given the opportunity not merely to learn, but to thrive.
